book illustration concept
Client: Liebherr

Year of creation: 2021

Brief: create three variants of the illustration concept for the book section titles.
The illustration should contain Liebherr products used in Russia.

Tools: Procreate, Ink, watercolor, liner, Photoshop, InDesign
The client was offered six different styles examples.
He chose three: detailed sketch, detailed silhouette with one additional color, and linocut Imitation. Based on the photo materials provided by the client, I created those illustration concepts for the book section titles.
DETAILED SKETCH, BLACK LINER
Sketch-style images have lightness and airiness, perfectly fit the industrial theme and go well with arrays of text.

DETAILED SILHOUETTE WITH ONE
ADDITIONAL COLOR, INK AND WATERCOLOR
The style is well suited for complex images where it is necessary to convey the depth of space.
Matte black ink sets the technical rigor of the drawing, and watercolor complements it with its liveliness and lightness.

LINOCUT / LINOCUT IMITATION, PROCREATE
Linocut technique is currently experiencing a real surge in popularity in Europe and the USA.
Its peculiarity is that it is a mass-production technique. An artist can cut out a board with an image and print a print run from it – and each print will be an original and therefore will have artistic value. Such prints can be used as gifts to customers, for the design of industrial exhibitions and offices.

A very limited number of illustrators can work in this technique or create a digital imitation of it, because working with an engraving requires special education, and is also very time-consuming and incredibly painstaking.

That is why works in this technique make book editions unique and bring a touch of exclusivity.
